in the values we honor in our Unitarian Universalist faith tradition?
This Sunday KUUF also celebrates its annual flower communion, a widely celebrated
Unitarian Universalist ritual that celebrates earth’s beauty and humanity’s oneness.
Please bring a flower or sprig of green as a symbol of the unique gifts each person
contributes to form a beautiful bouquet symbolizing the beauty of community.

June 29: Freedom & The Flower Communion: Many Unitarian Universalist congregations have long-standing beloved traditions, this lesson explores how freedom and flower ceremonies are linked. The children will be learning about the Flower Communion so that when the congregation has its Flower Communion they will have a deeper understanding.

In her last Sunday service at KUUF, Rev. Victoria will talk about UU religious freedom. UU is a religion that practices “covenant,” which means promise keeping. This is important, because one of the promises we work to keep is to live our value of religious pluralism, out loud and in public. Because the freedom to practice religion is still protected in this country, UUs can speak to and act on our values. So let’s talk about it. Let’s talk about our religion and why it matters.

Join us for our monthly LGBTQIA+ potluck on the fourth Friday of every month. This is a social gathering open to anyone who identifies under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. We meet at 6:00 pm at KUUF to share a meal, connect socially, and support each other. We hope to see you there!

Session IV – Sunday, June 22 after service – The Three Paths of Unitarian Universalism, Part Two and Finding Your Journey Group, facilitated by the Social Justice Committee and Compassionate Communication Team.

Soulful Home is an ongoing parent group meeting that usually meets the third Sunday of each month following the service. However, because the third Sunday of June is Father’s Day, Soulful Home has been moved to June 22nd. Parents are invited to bring a sack lunch for themselves and for their child(ren). Children will remain up in the Matan Building for childcare while parents meet to build community and explore the Soulful Home resources. Soulful Home is a program through Soul Matters that supports families as they explore the sacred in everyday spaces by providing materials to help parents integrate Unitarian Universalism into everyday home life. 

June 22: Freedom & Juneteenth: This session focuses on Freedom & Juneteenth. It lifts up that fact that while, yes, Juneteenth is a celebration of the freedom of enslaved people and is often filled with joy since it was recognized as a federal holiday, it is also a reminder that there is still work to be done.

A national holiday since 2021, Juneteenth marks the day – June 19,1865 – Texans received official word of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Texas. It is a day for celebration as well as a day to remember that holding on to hard-won freedom requires a steady commitment to this nation’s values of commitment to law and equality.

If you haven’t gotten around to writing or updating your will, this event is for you. KUUF is privileged to partner with the Kitsap Community Foundation in bringing Andrea Grossso Holdcroft to KUUF to share her expansive information in the estate planning field. Currently, she is the Financial Advisor to the Washington State Employees Union (WSECU). With over 25 years in investment management, Andrea is experienced in retirement strategies, tax planning, and trust and estate considerations.

June 15: Freedom & the Summer Solstice: This session lifts up how the Summer Solstice is an invitation to celebrate and a reminder that having fun and engaging in play is an important way we experience the sensation of freedom. Summer is a time of joy, a time to be free, a time to connect with nature, and a time to honor - through rest and play - all the work we have done.

In these turbulent times, when we face personal, congregational, and societal change, what would it mean to hold our losses well?

The Rev. Dr. Emily Melcher is a retired UU minister, singer/songwriter, and spiritual director. She lives on Whidbey Island with her spouse and their Old English Sheepdog, Teddy.

What problems are created by plastic pollution? What can we do about it? Come and learn from a local expert–Cindy Arasim. She gives presentations to Microsoft staff on how to reduce their use of plastic. As a challenge to prepare for this talk, try to avoid buying anything in plastic during your next visit to the grocery. Let’s see if we can have Sunday, June 8th be plastic free at our fellowship.

Session III – Sunday, June 1 after service – Our Journey Together: The Three Paths of Unitarian Universalism, Part One, will focus on three UU spiritual practices: listening to one’s deepest self, opening to life’s gifts, and serving needs greater than our own. Facilitated by the Compassionate Communication Team.

The KUUF Grief Support Group now meets the first Sunday of the month. The next meeting will be Sunday,  June 1 at 11:45 am in the Elmore Room.

Sunday, June 1st

There will be no childcare or children’s program this Sunday. Instead, children will remain in the sanctuary to witness a child dedication ritual, a coming of age ritual, and faith formation staff recognition.

We still have bedding plants, dahlia tubers, and houseplants, and we’re hoping that more will come in before the service on Sunday. We welcome baked goods, jam, or roasted nuts (which sold out in no time last week!). And as you are reading this there are people at work in KUUF’s garden (aka Nancy Jo’s Garden) to plant, weed, and make even more beds!  

Next Sunday's service is a celebration of several rites of passage: child dedication, coming of age, and staff recognition. We celebrate these rites as part of our choice to bless each other. As part of our promise to witness one another through transitions and milestones in life, we celebrate the changes that open up at every age and life stage. In this way, we co-create a spiritual community.

Come help us kick off the start of a new KUUF tradition - The 1st Annual Stewardship Variety Show - on Saturday, May 31! Doors open at 4:30 pm, dinner is served at 5:00 pm and the show starts at 5:30 pm.
